This morning at 4:30 am a CBS News van appeared at GHS to interview Angelie Humbert. Angelie has the opportunity to pursue her dream of reporting at 18, live from the Grammys. How you ask? Over the summer, Angelie attended a journalism camp at the University of Southern California that only admitted eight students from around the world. There she was selected to be one of two students to cover the Grammys as part of the Grammy in the Schools Media.

Every member of GTV and Voyager were invited to come down and watch or assist in the production of Angelie’s news segment. It was a bright and early 3 AM wakeup call for most people, resulting in a lot of tired, coffee-craving teens. The studio was filled with danishes and donuts of every kind. The minute the news truck pulled up, the excitement was palpable.  The Voyager students observed and supported their co-Editor-in- Chief, Angelie. Everyone couldn’t wait to go on air.

When the countdown began orders flew and many rushed to respond. Over the next hour and a half Angelie was interviewed several times. She gave opinions about the results of the Grammys and about music in general. The CBS interviewer, Vince Gerasole, stunned the members of GTV with his professional efficiency.

It was an exciting day for all involved, especially those hoping to pursue a career in journalism or television production. The day ended with Vince thanking and congratulating everyone who attended. He agreed to an interview with GTV reporter Kaitlyn Keenehan, so keep an eye open for that.

When it was all over, the equipment was packed up and lights turned off. The students went off to their classes, and the studio returned to its original state. There was no sign of the crowd that filled the room just hours before, but the experience would never be forgotten by those who participated in it.

Angelie Humbert is a senior at Geneva High School. She will be attending the Grammys in Los Angeles in February.
