Basement of the Dead

Looking to go to a haunted house this Halloween season? Located in Aurora, Basement of the Dead is one frightful place you don’t want to miss. When my friend and I first walked towards the outdoor line, there was music blasting, and we were greeted by people in various costumes and masks who roamed around trying to scare their guests in line. We arrived at the place relatively early, and the line went faster than expected.

In the haunted house, I was surprised by how many actors were hired. As we weaved through each room, they were all decorated with elaborate themes which looked very real. After about 20 minutes, we exited and entered a second line to experience the second part of the haunted house. At the second part, we had glasses and a black light flashlight. This part had the same theme throughout that was based on clowns (I think because the It movie came out a month earlier). This part took about 10 to 15 minutes. My heart was pounding throughout and I was very surprised at the end of it and I would love to go again. After the fact, I interviewed the friend that went with me, Julia Kaniuk.

On a scale from 1 to 10 how scary was it?

JK: “In the moment it was a nine, and looking back at the whole experience afterwards it was an eight.”

What would the actors or people in costumes do?

JK: “They weren’t allowed to touch you, but they would get right up in your face, talk or yell at you, spilt up your group, and follow you around.”

Would you go again or recommend this to your peers?

JK: “I would love to go again, and I definitely would recommend this place to other people.”
