Plans for the Charlestowne Mall area
Students will soon have a true mall that our community has been lacking for quite some time. In the near future, with The Quad St. Charles, kids will be saying, “Meet me at the Quad,” anytime they plan on hanging out with friends.
As reported by the Kane County Chronicle, even though the hype for this has been accumulating since November 2013, when the Krausz Companies Inc. purchased the property for more than $9.5 million, a big transformation is finally going to materialize. It has not been easy to get businesses on board with setting up shop on The Quad property due to the history of Charlestowne Mall, so new ideas for doing so are being sought out.
Familiar with the success of the Geneva Commons and Chicago Premium Outlet, they are now focusing on property on the exterior, in a place called the outlots. This will add an outside component to the interior mall, which will give this place an edge on competition. It will allow people to go inside during the winter and stay outside on beautiful summer days.
The only public information about when The Quad will open is the fact that redevelopment is scheduled for 2016. This is looking promising because quite a few businesses “have expressed strong interest in the outlots,” according to the Kane County Chronicle. Since getting businesses to lease a space is the dependent factor on failure or success, this is good news.
With all the pieces of the puzzle falling closer into place than they had been for many years, the Kane County Chronicle reports that “[the owners] are not giving up.”
