Guardians of the Galaxy

Movies nowadays contain such a variety of themes that it’s rare to see one tossed into just one specific genre. Instead, they combine aspects of multiple genres to help the viewer understand more about the movie before they actually see it.

James Quinn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy, does an excellent job of combining these ideas. With the use of intense action scenes combined with the effects of pure comedy genius, Quinn was right on the ball. He didn’t try too hard to make the scenes funny, and refrained from making them non-stop action. It was the perfect ratio.

Tyler Bates, composer of the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, also did an outstanding job producing the soundtrack. Interestingly enough, the music is incorporated into the plot via a mix tape owned by Chris Pratt’s character. This allowed the scenes to be perfectly matched with music, corresponding to the character’s every movement.

Sarah Finn, casting director, chose the perfect set of actors and actresses to precisely portray the complex characters that were featured in this movie. Dave Batista (Drax) did an incredible job playing the alien, whose no-nonsense personality added to the comic effect and the drama in the movie. Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon) along with Chris Pratt (Star Lord) added the sarcasm and metaphors that this movie needed. Batista’s character played the straightforward, get down-to-work persona contrasting the goofy antics of Pratt’s and Cooper’s characters. The seriousness of Batista’s character and the constant sarcasm from Pratt and Cooper made the perfect combination of nonsensical remarks and serious statements.

There is no way to sum up the quality of the directing and acting this movie offered into one simple sentence. The line delivery and random hand gestures, along with the strangely placed metaphors and sarcastic statements made this movie both funny and exciting to watch. All around, Guardians of the Galaxy is a must see movie that deserves its fair share of Oscar nominations.
