The Hereafter Trilogy review
The Hereafter Trilogy, written by Tara Hudson, is a supernatural romance about a girl named Amelia Ashley, who has been dead for two years, and a boy named Joshua Mayhew, who Amelia rescues from drowning at the very beginning of the book. After saving Joshua, Amelia learns that he is actually descended from a long line of Seers, people who can see ghosts like herself; the two of them begin to unravel the mysteries behind Amelia’s life and death. I loved this trilogy because along with the obvious romantic element there is a story with a twist and an ending that you can’t foresee. Amelia is an interesting and dynamic character who grows and changes throughout the three books and who constantly makes you wonder what she’ll come up with next. The fact that the main character is actually a ghost the whole time adds to the mystery and makes you wonder how it will turn out for her in the end. There is an array of funny, relatable characters, and while it is humorous it is also very dramatic, a quality I find desirable in any book or series. The one thing that annoyed me was the way Amelia tended to play the ‘damsel in distress’ role, which she held on to until the very end of the series. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Hereafter trilogy. With tragedy, mystery, treachery and romance, who wouldn’t find something to love in this exciting series?
