On September 10th, Cara Mund made history as she became the first contestant from North Dakota to ever be crowned Miss America. Mund is a 23 year old graduate from Brown University who entered the competition with the goal of making it as one of the top ten contestants, as North Dakota rarely makes it that far. Throughout the competition, Mund was well spoken as she shared her opinions regarding President Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement and showed her versatility with a jazz dance. As Miss America, Mund strives to inspire others and empower women. She will be studying law at Notre Dame after her year long reign working to create a lasting impact because as she puts it, “the crown only lasts a year, but the impact lasts a lifetime.”
