Run for the refugees 5k

On Saturday, June 4, UNICEF club will be hosting their first 5K to raise money for refugees and help end the crisis in Syria. The race will start at Fabyan Forest Preserve at the bear cage on the west side of the Fox River. The race continues next to the Fox River. The event will begin at 9AM.

The cost for people 18 years and under is $20 and the cost for adults is $30. The price covers the cost of a t-shirt, but mainly a donation that goes towards UNICEF’s mission to help the estimated 30 million refugee children on the run. Refreshments will be handed out at water stations as well.

Alyssa Jacobsen, a current GHS sophomore, said, “5k”s for a cause are not intense because they are focused on the cause.”

Gabby Gundry, a current GHS junior, commented “It is okay to walk in a 5k! If you run it is more competitive in the front of the race and more leisurely in the back.”

Sarah Hickey, GHS senior said “5ks are fun and I recommend running one. It’s a great experience!”
Hopefully, the advice and opinions above from GHS students encourages you to participate in this charitable race.
