Gubernatorial Elections: What’s your View?

I went around the school and asked seniors if they knew who they would vote for and other questions pertaining to the November elections for governor. I also was able to ask Andrew Krieger, who works for Republican Bruce Rauner’s campaign, a few questions about what it’s like to work for a campaign.

Questions I asked fellow Seniors:

Do you know who you’re voting for?

Everyone I asked said that they would vote for Rauner, some genuinely liked him, others saw him as the lesser of two evils. Everyone seems to be tired of having Pat Quinn in office since 2009.

Do you have a “party” that you belong to?

Again, everyone I asked said that they were not devoted to a party, but independent. A few described themselves as socially liberal and economically conservative. Others seemed to lean more conservative than liberal on the spectrum.

What is your view on the ad campaigns that you see?

When asked, the ads were described as “dirt throwing”, and “super annoying”. There was also a mutual hate for the commercial where Bruce Rauner’s wife appears on the screen and talks about how she’s a Democrat and how her husband is a Republican, but she would still vote for him because he’s “not like those guys in Springfield”. Also, no one that I asked saw these as effective for making the candidates look better, but did a great job at showing how many insults they have in their pocket.

What is your opinion on the 2 party system?

There was a mutual agreement that the two party system is ineffective. One person said that it was getting old, and that it restricts people, because they feel that they can only agree with one thing or the other.

Questions with Andrew Krieger: krieger

What’s it like working for a campaign?

“There are flexible hours, but you want to put in a lot of hours to. It’s volunteer based. It really helps with social skills and job experience. I talk to many people on the phone that I don’t know about the campaign. It’s really nice, because you feel like you’re in a big family, and everyone is on the same team.”

How did you get involved?

“There were flyers being handed out for an internship with the campaign. I was interested in working for the campaign, and it ended up being a paid internship!”

How can others get involved?

“Well, the campaign is about to wrap up, but there will be other things that need to be done post-election. If anyone is interested in working for the Rauner Campaign, contact my supervisor, Hunter Shodeen at 1(630)-973-8567.”

What advice do you have for others about the election?

“If you’re able to vote, go out and vote! Every vote counts!”
