Red Ribbon Week food drive

Each year, the SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions) participates in celebrating Red Ribbon Week.  Red Ribbon Week is a national drug prevention week in honor of the late Enrique Camerena, a DEA agent that was murdered in 1985 while working undercover in Mexico.  His friends and family started the Red Ribbon tradition to recognize the work he did to prevent drug abuse and addiction.  As part of the mission of the SADD Club, students volunteer in the community to build personal assets in the hopes that these traits will help encourage teens to make positive choices and refrain from abusing drugs.

One of the community service projects that we run during Red Ribbon Week is the annual food drive.  All items will be donated to the First Baptist Church Food Pantry in Geneva.  At the high school, collections will be held at the final home varsity football game against Larkin on Friday, October 24th at Burgess Field and also at the GHS building during the week of October 27-31st.  The SADD Club will be running a contest among students’ 2nd hour classes during that week to collect the most items.  Please consider bringing nonperishable food items or toiletries to the game or sending them with your student to school to help out.  Please contact Lisa Meister at [email protected], Becky Furnish at [email protected] or Dave Carli at [email protected] if you have any questions.
