Environmentally friendly

Our future depends on our choices and without helping the environment, are we really doing our part? One club here at GHS is determined to do their part and make a difference in the world by taking care of the environment. Voyager interviewed Mrs. Cole, sponsor of Environmental Club, to find out what this club does for the Earth and our school.

For the past ten years, Environmental Club has been spreading awareness of environmental issues and getting students together to make a change. The members participate in many fun activities throughout the year; including seed gathering, a picnic, a trip to a local pumpkin patch, and more. Environmental Club is responsible for taking care of the recycling in classrooms, as well as getting recycling bins put in our cafeteria. A few years ago, the club even sold reusable lunch bags to students in an effort to reduce the amount of garbage produced by everyone at GHS.

Environmental Club is a great way to meet people who share similar interests while helping the environment and gain service hours. Currently, the club is doing many outdoor activities to enjoy the beautiful fall weather while it lasts. Some upcoming activities are; a trip to a pumpkin patch on October 18th, seed harvesting from local prairies on November first, as well as a dog walk, and removing invasive species from protected areas. For those interested in joining Environmental Club, it meets every Wednesday at 7:15 am, in room HH232. If you are unable to make it to the weekly meetings, speak to club president Jenny Zander to be put on an email list to get information regarding upcoming activities.
